Dr. Nakamura
Tetsu
Nakamura was a Japanese physician and aid worker who dedicated his life to
improving the lives of people living in Afghanistan. He was born on September
10, 1946, in Japan and passed away on December 4, 2019, in an attack in
Afghanistan.
Nakamura
first went to Afghanistan in 1984 to provide medical assistance to people
affected by the Soviet-Afghan War. He later established the NGO "Peace
Japan Medical Services" to provide healthcare services and education to
people living in rural areas of Afghanistan.
One
of Nakamura's major achievements was his work on irrigation projects in the
eastern province of Nangarhar. He helped to build canals and wells to provide
water for farming, which helped to improve the lives of thousands of people in
the region.
Nakamura
received numerous awards for his humanitarian work, including the Ramon
Magsaysay Award in 2003 and the Order of the Rising Sun from the Japanese
government in 2019.
His
death was widely mourned by people in Afghanistan and around the world, with
many remembering him as a selfless humanitarian who dedicated his life to
